The topic varies each time the course is taught; this time around, we will focus on "libraries and community"

Respone to Jom

Perhaps one of the reasons Miss Rose could accomplish so much, and have so much autonomy, was that the white elite of her time and place were not interested in the Black community,and/or looked down on the Black community, wanted nothing to do with them, thus leaving a space and an opportunity for Miss Rose.

Thank you Irene, and yes I think Miss Rose was at the right place and the right time. Also, she was not a young librarian, in her 40s (I think it is somewhere in the reading), when she was assigned to this place in Harlem with experiences and seniority in the profession. I think this also counts too.
